South Western Youth Basketball is an organization completely run by volunteers. We provide playing opportunities for boys and girls in grades K through 8. Tryouts are required, and all players participating in tryouts WILL make a team. (See A, B, or C Leagues)

 

  • Divisions / Competition
    • There are two leagues (“A” and “B”) in which Seniors, Juniors and Rinks compete throughout the York County area. Intramurals is a program that is completely run within the South Western School District. 
  • Seniors – 7th & 8th grade
  • Juniors – 5th & 6th grade
  • Rinks – 3rd & 4th grade
  • Little Mustangs – K - 2nd grade
  • York/Adams Youth Basketball A League
    • Approximately 20 organizations where we compete with other school youth teams from the York/Adams County area.
    • This is competitive league where scores and standings are kept.
    • The top 8 teams make a single elimination playoff tournament at the end of the season.
  • York/Adams Youth Basketball B League
    •  Approximately 20 organizations but is not as competitive as the A League.
    • Wins and losses are not tracked.
    • All teams have opportunity to participate in a tournament at the end of the season.
  • C-League
    •  To be Determined as to where games will be played
  • Evaluations / Tryouts
    • These are held with the assistance of South Western High School and Middle School coaches
    • Teams usually consist of 10 or 12 players max
    • All who Tryout WILL be placed on a Team
    • For Seniors (7th & 8th graders), evaluations for both boys and girls are part of the school team evaluations in mid-November.
      • Seniors who are not selected for a school team may wish to participate in the York/Adams Youth Basketball A or B league.
      • Seniors must register in September to be eligible to play in York/Adams Youth Basketball A or B league.
  • Timelines 
    • Tryouts held in October
    • Practices start November 
    • A League Season playoffs are held the first two weekends in March
    • B League Season runs through early February with the tournament held on various weekends in February.
  • Practices
    • Most teams have 2-3: 90 minute practices per week at one of the South Western elementary schools.
    • Intramural/Development teams practice 1 – 2 times per week.
    • When school and/or after-school activities are cancelled for the South Western School District, practice is also cancelled.
  • Games
    • The A and B League games are played on Saturdays and/or Sundays beginning the first weekend in December.
    • All games are played within York County 
    • Admission to games is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. Game admission fees are used to cover the referee costs.
  • Cost-Breakdown
    • Rink, Juniors & Seniors
      • Registration Fee:  $70
      • Uniform Fee (practice jersey, game shorts, game jersey):
      • This is waived if you are using previous years jersey. Be sure to select that you are using last years jersey during registration and the jersey number
    • Development team (K-2nd graders) will have a registration fee of $50
  • Volunteers
    •  Parent volunteers will be auto assigned to run Admissions table and Concession stand for Home Games
